When the pulp of the tooth is infected root canal is recommended. It is a procedure in which the infection is cleaned by removing the infected pulp.

The procedure is carried under local anesthesia. The canal is cleaned and shaped properly and filled with Gutta percha. Antibiotics and analgesics may be prescribed during the procedure. The dentist seals it with a temporary filling followed by a permanent one after few days.
