Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure used to treat an infected or damaged tooth. It involves removing the damaged or infected tissue from the inside of the tooth, called the pulp, and cleaning and filling the resulting empty space.

Root canal treatment is typically recommended when a tooth is severely decayed or damaged, has a deep cavity, or has suffered trauma. Without treatment, the infection or damage can spread to the surrounding teeth and tissues, leading to more serious dental and health problems.
